First of all, there is an important distinction in the methodology whether you're accounting for the renewable energy projects' effect on past (1) or on planned* (2) emissions.

*In Futureproofed, past emissions are the years for which data is already validated (= blue bars in dashboard graph) which means we already have emission inventory data available for that year, while the planned emissions are those emissions indicated as grey bars in the dashboard, which is the result of the impact of your measures.

(1) Past projects on renewable energy

These effects are reflected in the annual local emission factors for electricity, heating/cooling, and biofuel (tonne CO₂/kWh) under “Data input”. It is important that these be recalculated with the impact of the local renewal energy projects, so that their effect is included. It will have an effect on your city's past emissions. The lower emission factor will be used to update the emissions based on each sector's energy use.

(2) Future projects on renewable energy

For planned emissions*, it is the CO₂-impact of the renewable energy measures that is divided among the main sectors, proportionally to a sector's consumption. In the analysis graph 'emissions', it is possible to analyse the sectors without the impact of renewable energy measures (find this option in the menu via the cogwheel above the graphs). This allows you to perfectly see how much renewable energy contributes to each sector.
