What is the governance of data suggested by Futureproofed? How often is data updated? Why do I see suggested data on my Data Input page?

As cities evolve and new data becomes available, it's essential to integrate the most accurate and up-to-date data. To ensure this, Futureproofed monitors and suggests data updates for relevant parameters in city accounts. In this article, we'll explain how Futureproofed governs the process of updating data parameters.

How Futureproofed suggests updates to data parameters

Futureproofed's data governance process involves periodical data searches and the integration of new data points. The updates primarily focus on the parameters related to calculating the positive impact of climate measures. These updates are essential for evaluating the effectiveness of measures, keeping emission inventories updated, as well as informing future planning and decision-making processes.

The process of updating data parameters includes the following:

  1. Data monitoring: Futureproofed constantly monitors various data sources to identify new and relevant information that may impact city accounts. Some parameters might change more quickly over time and have a bigger impact than others; hence they are internally flagged as a priority (list of priority parameters). We do a screening of relevant parameters once a year. Data sources include government agencies, research institutions, and private sector organisations.

  2. Data evaluation and validation: Once new data points are identified, Futureproofed's team evaluates their relevance and validity. This ensures that accurate and reliable data is suggested to city accounts. When parameters are not found in an original source for the desired area, proxies are used to calculate realistic estimations. A source, date and confidence level back every data point.

  3. Data integration: After evaluating the data, Futureproofed integrates the new data points into our backend system, enabling the new data found to be suggested to city accounts. The suggestion feature ensures that city accounts have the most current and accurate information available.

  4. Communication of updates: New data points available for your region are suggested to your account via the Data input page. You can explore the data and decide whether or not you want to accept the updates. This enables cities to make well-informed decisions based on the latest available data.

Key considerations

  • The data updates will impact the measures coming from our standard list. They will not directly impact the custom measures in your plan.

Futureproofed's continuous data update process aims to provide cities with up-to-date data, resulting in better-informed climate action planning.
